Default radio not playing

I have a 2003 Crown Victoria that has a OEM CD and cassette radio. The CD player works great but the radio will not. When you turn on the radio it only has sound coming thru speakers like it has no antenna connected. I pulled the radio to see if it was disconnected but it was connected. I'm guessing I'm either missing something or the tuner is gone to the radio. Any help is appreciated. thanks Keith

Do you have an external aerial antenna, or is your radio antenna integrated into the back glass? Sometimes the "decontenters" that strip the police equipment get a little over zealous removing antennas, and they disconnect stuff that shouldn't be. I'd check the wire connection at the antenna to make sure it is fully attached.

My car has the intregrated antenna. My car was NEVER a cop car so I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with that. Its just weird how the radio doesn't play at all but the cd player works great. thanks for your reply.

I also found a wire loose in the trunk but not sure what its for. I'm gonna look to see if can find where it goes. That may be the problem with the radio.

Does your rear window defroster work?

Yes, my defroster works. Everything on the car works as it should except the radio picking up radio stations. All I hear is just static noise like when a tv channel goes off air.

Hmmm... I wonder if one of your contacts on/in the glass is broken or bad? I was looking at my GM earlier today, and it looks like the antenna contact is at the top of the glass near the headliner with the pigtail coming out from the center of headliner. When you pulled out the radio, you verified the antenna cable is plugged in, right? It seems unusual that the tuner would go out of a factory radio, but I'd think it is certainly possible. I'll keep stewing on it, and check back. If I have any other ideas, I'll let you know. Good luck, and if you get it figured out, make sure you post back and let us know what it was.

Yes, the antenna is plugged in at the radio and on the rear glass at the top center. I'm gonna call the Ford dealership tomorrow and see if they have had any radios do this what is causing it. I will post any info I can come up with. again , thanks for trying to help me find the problem.

Bummer... I always go into stuff like this hoping that there is just something simple and easy to do to correct the issue. You should be able to find a used OEM stereo at a local salvage yard for around a hundred bucks, maybe they'll let you test it in the parking lot? At least that way you'd know whether the problem is in the radio or the wiring in the car. Unfortunately, you've already done everything the dealer service department will do to diagnose the issue. They replace radios for this kind of thing.

I finally found out what the problem was on my radio no picking up stations. It was the AM/FM tuner that was not working. I got a replacement off eBay and now it works great! Problem solved! Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it!
